Janam Sanskar Puja is a sacred Hindu ritual performed after the birth of a child to welcome and bless a newborn child. It involves the invocation of blessings from deities, offering prayers, and providing the child with sacred threads and marks.

- Installing an idol or a picture of the family deity or the chosen deity of the child and offering prayers and mantras to them.
- Placing the child in a cradle or a swing (jhula) and rocking it gently while singing hymns of joy and blessing.
- Reading a random verse from a holy scripture, such as the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, etc., and choosing a name for the child based on the first letter of the verse. The name should reflect the qualities and attributes of the child and the deity.
- Whispering the name of the child in his or her right ear three times by the father or the priest.
- Announcing the name of the child to the family members and friends who are present at the ceremony and seeking their blessings and approval.
- Offering various items to the child, such as flowers, fruits, sweets (especially modak), coconut, betel leaves, betel nuts, etc., as a symbol of love and affection.
- Performing a fire sacrifice (homa) to invoke the blessings of the fire god (Agni) and other gods and goddesses for the well-being and prosperity of the child.
- Performing an ardas, a prayer of petition, to thank God for the gift of the child and to ask for his or her protection and guidance throughout life.
- Distributing prasad, a sacred food, to all the guests as a token of gratitude and sharing.
